So after an amazing few months spent driving through southern Africa visiting nature reserves, national parks and doing our very own self-drive safaris, I thought it was only right that I re-watch The Lion King (for the hundredth time). I couldn’t help notice how similar it was (song and dance numbers notwithstanding) to our real-life experience.
Here are my favourite screenshots side by side with their real-life counterparts, taken in Addo Elephant Park in South Africa, Etosha National Park in Namibia, Nxai Pan National Park in Botswana, Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park that borders all three, Hwange National Park and Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, and the Hyena Man in Harar, Ethiopia.
Are there any movies you’ve seen that match up to real life? Share them in the comments below!
You can also follow the adventure on Facebook and Instagram.
You should visit Kenya, where the whole idea of the LION KING movie came from.
