Drive a 4×4 on Fraser Island

The best way to explore the world's largest sand island is to drive across it and in Hervey Bay, you can pay to do just this. Tours include the jeep rental, the ferry to and from the island and camping equipment including cool-boxes for food and drink. So stock up on supplies and have a …

Sail around the Whistsunday Islands

74 mostly uninhabited islands make up the Whitsundays. Pristine white beaches and dense jungle are ready to be explored, you can charter your own boat for your island hopping experience or pay to go on one of the overnight tours available. A huge group of us sailed aboard the SV Whitehaven for three days and …

Drive around Magnetic Island

Magnetic Island is only 8km and a short ferry ride away from Townsville and it's a great place to spend a few days. You can cuddle a koala or drive a 4x4 to hidden beaches, climb trees and hike to great lookouts. There are sailing and jet-ski tours, kayaking and fishing tours. The island itself …

Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef

The main reason people visit Cairns is for the daily or overnight trips to the Great Barrier Reef. If diving isn't your thing you can wander around the city and the seafront, avoiding salt-water crocodiles by swimming in the free ocean-front swimming pool. We saw this crazy bridge from way above it on our 4th day, and it was my last challenge before ending the 9-day ABC trek. I'm terrified of heights but it wasn't as bad as it looked... and it meant we had almost reached the end! We decided to take the local bus (not for the faint hearted) back to Pokhara to enjoy a comfy bed and a hot shower. What an adventure! πŸ‡³πŸ‡΅
Can you think of a better way to end a 9-day trek in the Annapurna Massif than with a soak in the Jinhu Hot Springs? No, I think not. πŸ‡³πŸ‡΅
With the mountains behind us and the valley below us, we made our final descent. Our last day of the Annapurna Base Camp trek was beautiful but bittersweet! πŸ‡³πŸ‡΅
Saying goodbye to the mountains, for now... πŸ‡³πŸ‡΅
It was nice spending another night in Chhomrong after a two-day descent from Annapurna Base Camp... but the stairs to reach it are the worst!!! I'd forgotten how far down we climbed just four days earlier... πŸ‡³πŸ‡΅
The climb down from Annapurna Base Camp was, of course, much quicker than the ascent. We walked from ABC (4130m) to Dovan (2505m) one day, and then to Chhomrong (2160m) the next. Then it was time to say goodbye to these mountain views! πŸ‡³πŸ‡΅
