A winter road trip in Iceland

Iceland, the land of fire and ice, is one of the most beautiful countries I've ever been to. Think vast plains and active volcanoes, snowy mountains and black sand beaches, ancient history and a landscape that inspired some eerie folklore. While it’s best visited in the summer if you want rolling green hills and a …

I'm glad we spent the night in Tadapani (2680m) but there are some stunning guesthouses with this view overlooking the valley as you follow the path right down to the Kyumrung River (1525m). From there it's a killer climb to Chhomrong (2160m)! 🇳🇵
That view though... 🇳🇵
It was a looooong walk to get to Tadapani (2680m) from Ghorepani, but what a view to wake up to! It was our first clear shot of the dramatic and unsummited Machapuchare (6993m). 🇳🇵
I think Day 4 of the ABC trek was the hardest. We had no sleep, got out of bed at 5am to climb Poon Hill (3210m) in the dark in time for sunrise, then walked 10km with some killer ups and downs (pictured is Deurali Pass at 3132m) to reach Tadapani. It was a long, slow, exhausting but beautiful journey. 🇳🇵
Prayer flags and peaks... The perfect sunrise view of Fang (7647m), Annapurna South (7219m) and Hiunchuli (6441m). 🇳🇵
After zero sleep (thanks to the screaming school children in our guesthouse) @vandaportela and I almost skipped sunrise at Poon Hill (3210m)... but we had major FOMO, so we set off at 5:30am, pushed ourselves to our limits and made it just in time! Totally worth every stair, dizzy spell and tantrum. 🇳🇵
